Time.
"A nonspatial continuum in which events occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future."
Time holds a meaning in everyone's lives. Whether they chose to accept it or not is irrelevant as time's grasp extends through our very existence. Time is no more important to one individual as it is to another, and to establish this viewpoint one must think without relativity. To value time, is to value one's life. Life itself holds different meanings for different people, depending on how they think. However that is exactly what makes time and life so special to each of us, everyone's life is unique and so is their traversal through time. This might seem confusing at first, as the flow of time is constant, but the -effect of the flow of time- varies from person to person.
People go through various phases in their lives... childhood, adolescence, struggling to establish themselves in the world, to gain recognition in ways that satisfies them, and moving on into one out of an infinite number of possible futures. These phases, so to say, are easy to live through. But shifting one's life from one phase to another is what is the hardest. Most people eventually get through, and forget (often willingly, as such memories are often unpleasant) about what they had to experience. This transition from phase to phase is unique as well, unique to each person even though there might be similarities. What hardships one has to face depends on the person, the person's mind, and finally the person's socio-economic background. It might be easy for someone rich to go from one boarding school to another college/university without even putting an effort in, but the further you take the individual from the harsh realities of -CHANGE-, the stronger the guarantee that the same individual will suffer when he/she has to fend for himself/herself come a certain stage in life. Change is what -defines- the mental strength of a person, how you cope with various obstacles in the road ahead and eventually overcome them will ultimately become the most crucial part of your personality in the years to come. Nobody is perfect, everyone isn't rich, everyone isn't smart, and the world is dynamic in nature. But, we do live together in this same world, we aren't isolated. And when we are together, influence through interaction and observation is inevitably bound to occur. How we deal with this influence again varies from person to person, but before one can deal with the influence, one has to recognize it and its effects. Your family, your peers, the people you admire, the people you see everyday, all jointly form a circle of influence around you. And the radius of this circle keeps reducing until you deal with it, otherwise -it- will deal with -you-.
So what happens when you lose? When you lose a chance, when you lose time, when you lose something or someone. Time is valued the most once you have lost a piece of it, especially when the consequences of doing so hit you in the face like a heavy brick. I am sure everyone (or at least most people) wish that they could go back in time and correct something, anything. But unfortunately, time is linear and ongoing; it doesn't stop or turn back. What most successful people do is move on by learning from their losses. They recognize and accept the facts around them, assessing their situation in a logical and objective fashion considering both short-term and long-term implications of what they would do next. But the world isn't perfect, is it? There are also unsuccessful people who are unable to move out of a loss, and the circle of influence is so tight that it chokes you, it affects your rationality and one looks for the easy way out. The easy way out, if it works, is nothing but a postponement of current events. Think of it as relieving yourself of weighted items by throwing them upwards in the air, eventually the same items will fall down and hit you and the effect will be harder than before.
Time is a force to be reckoned with, and managing this very force opens up doors to brighter futures. But is the future you are headed towards what you really want? Is what you are about to take up something you wish to be a part of for countless further years of your life? The choice may not always be in your hands, as external factors coming from the circle of influence will make you kneel down towards them. But if you have the will to fight, there is a way to escape. Escape from what? Escape from a possible future that you do not want to entail in, escape from one direction to take another. Is escaping bad? That is a very relative question, and presenting someone with generic ideologies in super specific situations is the worst thing one can do. -Everyone- is unique, everyone is DIFFERENT! You do not have to follow in anyone's footsteps except your own, follow in the footsteps of your own aspirations and dreams. Nothing is easy, there WILL be hardships and there WILL be people telling you otherwise. What matters the most is for YOU to rationally and objectively take the correct decisions to preserve your own future. How many smart people end up working for physical labour? How many athletically aspiring students never set foot on the field after high school? How many sons and daughters take up the same profession as their parents and grandparents because it runs in the family? How many people never get to live their dreams because of such socio-economic constraints? The answer is -many-. Many people go through the same, either because they themselves don't chase after what they want to do or because external factors (people, family, money) don’t let them. In many cases, you fail to meet crucial objectives in the path that one takes. Why do we fall? To get the hell up again! Learn from it and move forward. If you keep falling, the answer is NOT to run away and try something easier, the answer is to keep getting up and trying till you succeed. What happens when you reach the bottom of the barrel, a scenario filled with darkness with no way out? The answer to this very question is called life-changing-determination. Do what it takes, bend away from the path you wanted to take, but don't run away from it. Come back to it when you get the opportunity! If you cannot cross a deep river, travel sideways till you reach a point where you CAN cross it. Turning back and moving away from it will never make you reach your destination. These are simple words, but if you think about it, they mean a lot.
Don't run away from a loss, don't let defeat crush you, forget what the whole world thinks and continue to believe in what you wish to do yourself. Because it is YOUR future, YOUR life and YOUR time.
